Have you been hearing the term lifelong learning more in the last few years? Are you curious what it could mean for your teaching?
TU Delft sees lifelong learning (LLL) as a core educational task and part of its societal contribution. At the TU Delft Learning for Life Centre, we have been creating tailored education for worldwide learners, and have collected a wealth of expertise on what is possible, what works well, and what suits us at TU Delft.
The Lifelong Learning Portal is a recently developed resource that brings together materials to support lecturers in thinking through educational design questions with a focus on creating lifelong learning. It is publicly available and developed for use within TU Delft.
The portal was developed within TU Delft by learning developers and lecturers, based on their own teaching practice.

What you will find in the portal
The portal brings several types of content together in one place.
- An overview of educational formats used in lifelong learning, with attention to what they mean for interaction, assessment, and workload
- Short contributions from TU Delft lecturers who reflect on how they designed and taught lifelong learning education
- A page that supports an initial brainstorming process for a lifelong learning idea, including the steps involved in developing it further with the Learning for Life Centre or faculty support
- A collection of resources that support lecturers in developing and refining lifelong learning education
The material is intended as a reference. It helps make design choices visible and comparable, rather than prescribing how things should be done.
Learning from colleagues
The portal’s inspiration section includes short videos featuring TU Delft lecturers sharing their experiences with lifelong learning. Thanks to Jianning Dong, Zian Qin, Margreet Docter, Arjo Loeve, and Robin Vismara for taking the time to reflect on their teaching and making their practice accessible to colleagues.
Lecturers who would like to contribute their own experience can contact the Learning for Life Centre for guidance on adding it to the portal.
Ways lecturers use the portal
Lecturers use the portal in different ways, including:
- redesigning an existing course
- considering a new educational format
- starting a new project to reach an external audience
- looking for examples of how colleagues have approached similar questions in their teaching
